Fitness bloggers require a certain style when creating a blog, and there are many different reasons to begin fitness blogging. Starting a fitness blog in 2020 is challenging because there is more competition (more people creating fitness blogs), but it is also simple because you can have access to post on your blog form anywhere in the world.
Starting a Fitness Blog in 2020 – A Step by Step Guide
Aside from people who are considering to start a fitness blog solely to make money from advertisements, the main reason people to motivate and interest potential customers and readers. Check out these simple tips that can help you begin a successful fitness blog in 2020!
Choose a Domain Name
Choosing a domain name is the first step to starting a blog, no matter what niche you are in.
You have to draw readers into your blog, especially in the beginning, when no one has heard of you. But, how do you do that?
You come up with a great domain name! If you have something that people respond to, they are more likely to take a closer look at what you have to offer.
I purchased my domain name from GoDaddy, but there are other places you can purchase domains as well.
Try to make your domain name topic relevant, or relevant in some way that can be “branded.” I titled my fitness blog “Adam Kemp Fitness” because as a professional athlete, I believe my name is a brand itself.
If you have a reputable name due to athletics or a certain accomplishment in the fitness industry, I suggest using your name as your brand. However, if you are relatively new and looking to establish yourself, use a domain and blog title which illustrates your goal of the blog. After users begin to read your blog more often, they will begin to associate your blog title and domain with useful fitness tips!
Choosing a domain name is the first step towards successfully creating a fitness blog!
Use Your Passion to Choose Your Niche (or Micro-Niche)
When you begin a fitness blog, you need to always showcase your love of fitness to your readers. Not only does your passion need to be present in your blog, but you need to remind yourself often of why you are doing this.
It is not always easy to have a blog; it can be time consuming and difficult. However, it is much easier to keep going when you remember what it is all for.
If you have a passion for helping people lose weight, blog about simple and effective weight loss tips. If you like to try to help people build muscle and develop an aesthetic body, write about that!
My website is one example of the type of fitness blog you can start in 2020, but another example is the website FindHealthTips.com.
There are many reasons that FindHealthTips is a great example of the type of fitness blog you can start on your own.
FindHealthTips covers many different health topics, such as:
- Ways to Grow Taller
- Weight Loss Tips
- Hair Care
- Product and Company Reviews
- Vision and Eye Care
- Bodybuilding Tips and Advice
- Exercise and Yoga Tips and Advice
One of the differences with this website compared with other health sources is that their information is generally much more factually checked and applicable to your life.
Along with this though, one of the other notable features about FindHealthTips is that they publish intriguing interviews from celebrities about their opinion on health topics.
This alone gives their site a distinctive look and feel compared to other health and fitness websites. If you are planning to start your own health and fitness website or blog, a great idea to take from them is reaching out to celebrities, doctors, and other notable people for interesting and engaging stories.
This is one example of what you can do when starting a fitness blog, but there are many others as well if this doesn’t seem like the route you want to go.
Regardless, write about what you are passionate about- and not what you think is the best way to make money.
Use WordPress – Don’t Over Complicate Things
Use WordPress. It is a simple site that you should be able to figure out in no time. There are also a number of different templates available (although you have to pay for a few of them), so you don’t even have to worry about design. You are only responsible for content, which makes things much easier.
If you decide not to use WordPress for some reason, go on YouTube to find a tutorial that will help design your site.
After a few months or year of fitness blogging you can decide to use a paid theme and hire an expensive website developer, but at first you should concentrate on creating content that readers will love to read. After you have written quality articles for a few months, you can begin to focus on User Experience on your fitness blog.
Hosting Your Website (Choose WPEngine)
I recommend WPEngine if you are starting out since they are the best in the business, and that’s who I use. The set up is very quick and easy, and WPEngine provides you guidelines.
Honestly, it really takes few minutes to get your website up and running. A point to note is that if you want to save from the web-hosting cost for WEngine, there are a few options.
For example, WPEngine offers you three months for free when you sign up for their service!
When you use WPEngine, they make sure they are with you in every step, whether you are a seasoned internet pro or just starting to build your first website. They operate 24 hours throughout the year with the aim of delivering you with any aspect of your hosting experience and exceed your expectations.
They also have the migration team that helps in transferring any existing content from your prior host and then configure in order to perform on their platform. They do transfer domain registration and manage your entire portfolio at one convenient place.
Add New Quality Content Regularly
Most people don’t stick with their blogs, and they stop posting new content after 12 weeks or so. Let your readers know that you aren’t going anywhere.
Put up posts frequently!
The success of your fitness blog begins and ends with a great content. If you write the content that your readers enjoy and value, people will start coming back for more.
Understand who your readers are, what they are passionate about, and what they expect to get from your site. Some people will want hardcore strength training advice, while others will want to lose body fat. I recommend you specialize in one single niche, at least for the beginning, and become an expert at it.
If you struggle with content writing, there are a lot of services where you can hire a paper writer to write articles for you on your selected topic, such as Essay Shark. However, with more free writing experience and practice with writing articles for your fitness blog, you will certainly build a lot of writing skills and become a great writer over time!
You can find more details all over the internet for how to become a better writer throughout the internet.
Furthermore, not only should you publish new content on your own fitness blog, but you should also publish promotional content on other platforms as well. For example, you can create some infographics to spread key facts about your brand or information that you believe is valuable in an entertaining and easily digestible format, and pitch it to other fitness blogs for them to use.
Seek Out Followers from Social Media
There are so many things you can do to attract followers to your blog, and using your existing social media accounts is one of the best ways to do it.
Programs such as Instamacro, the Instagram bot can help you build a following on Instagram, which you can then use to promote your fitness blog.
When I began this fitness blog I initially got a lot of attention off of Instagram. Although I don’t use Instagram as much anymore, I know it is still valuable when you are starting a fitness blog.
Here is an example of the type of content I post on m Instagram to attract followers:

A couple exercises from my off day workout today. • The first video is a combination of goblet squats (45kg-99lbs) with jump squats (3kg-6.5lbs). Combining a strength movement with a speed/power movement. • The second is single leg deadlifts with 32kg-70lbs kettlebells. This was literally the heaviest I’ve ever done this exercise in my life, so safe to say I’m pretty happy with today 👍🏼 • • • #FunctionalTraining #HealthIsWealth #Motivation #InstaFit #Fit #Fitspo #IGFitness #Fitness #Workout #Fitspiration #Active #FitnessMotivation #Gym #LifeStyle #Diet #GetFit #Exercise #Basketball #FIBA #DreamChasers #Poland #Polpharma
Another great way to promote your new fitness blog is to talk to people at your local gym about it. Whether you are giving diet advice or writing your Workout of the Day for others to see and use, the people you see at your local gym will probably be interested in what you have to say!
Don’t be afraid to ask people to checkout your new blog!
Have Your Site Stand Out With Tools and Apps
Your fitness site can stand out if you can also create fitness related tools and apps. These tools help to tell people how to get fit and generally make their fitness goals a lot easier. The use of an application gives your efforts for a healthier life the sense of a game.
Making extra tool costs money, no one can disagree with this, but if you have the opportunity to create one it can be very beneficial!
Ensure The Website Allows Two-Way Communication
If you want to create a website in the health and fitness niche, you are supposed to let people interact with you. The reason as to why is to get a maximum amount of information about your services.
Stay Focused – Don’t Give Up
Of course, there are times when it’s okay to lose focus and just relax your mind, but if you want to start an amazing fitness blog in 2020, you are going to need to learn how to focus for a long-time!
Improving your ability to focus when you need to, is an excellent way to increase your productivity and make bigger strides with your fitness blog each day.
Below I will list a few effortless ways you can increase your mental capacity and stay focused!
Did you know that even a 1% drop in your overall hydration levels can cause up to a 10% drop in athletic function, and this is widely caused by the inability of your body to control is central nervous system?
Staying hydrated is necessary for you to function well, especially while competing in athletic training or competition.
Supplements such as potassium, sodium and magnesium all can aid your ability to stay hydrated, and in peak focus mode!
Try Supplementing with a Nootropic
Ever since the rise of Red Bull a few years ago companies have been scrambling to find a mental energy boosting supplement that the entire world will buy. A lot of these supplements have crashed and burned, but there are many which can help you.
One example of a worthwhile nootropic is Mind Lab Pro.
This supplement is very effective for improving your brain power and focus, and will have you locked in whether you are going to class or heading to your workout.
One of the best nootropics I have personally tried is Cognitune NuClarity.
Practice Yoga & Meditation and Take Some Time to Yourself
I love yoga and meditation. As someone with Tourette Syndrome, yoga and meditation are vital to helping me live a “somewhat” normal life.
Yoga has become somewhat of a fad over the last few years, but it has long been known as an excellent way to keep your body and mind fresh.
One of the main reasons for this is that it incorporates a wide amount of breathing techniques, and meditation.
Yoga and meditation naturally help you to clear your mind from distractions, and stay more focused throughout your days.
Even just relaxing and not watching your TV or cell phone can dramatically improve the ability of your brain to function.
Don’t be afraid to give 5-10 minutes of calming meditation a try in your busy routine!
Take Short Breaks While Working
One reason that people can easily lose focus, is by focusing too much. Taking a couple short breaks, even while working intensely, can allow you to re-focus much better than before.
One excellent example of this is the famed Pomodoro Technique.
There are many ways that you can use this break, and meditation (as said above) is just one example of an excellent option!
Take a Nap
This might seem very counter-intuitive if you are trying to get a lot of work done, but a power nap can have huge effects on your ability to stay focused long term when you are building your fitness blog.
The famous inventor Nikola Tesla was said to sleep only 2-3 hours per day, but used a series of 20-30-minute naps to keep his concentration up.
Although I still advise 8-9 hours of sleep each night, taking a short nap in the middle of the day can do wonders for you as well!
