If you have been reading my articles for a while, you probably already know that Scivation Xtend BCAAs is one of my favorite products of all time. However, I finally am taking the time to write my own Scivation Xtend BCAA review!

When I first became interested in the supplement industry (around 2010), Scivation Xtend was the first product which began consistently investing my money into. 9 years later, Scivation Xtend is still my favorite true BCAA product.

There are other supplements I love and regularly write about, but Scivation Xtend will always have a special place in my heart.

Scivation Xtend BCAA Ingredients

If you have never used a BCAA supplement before, the main reason you should drink BCAAs are because they are the fastest absorbing type of proteins for improving muscle recovery and muscle growth.

There are three strands of amino acids which make up the “BCAAs,” they are:

  • Leucine
  • Isoleucine
  • Valine

Unlike complete proteins, BCAAs (Branch Chain Amino Acids) are absorbed directly through the bloodstream, and don’t require complete digestion. Therefore, they are very useful for stimulating muscle recovery during or following exercise.

According to a 2004 study published in the Journal of Nutrition,

“BCAA supplementation before and after exercise has beneficial effects for decreasing exercise-induced muscle damage and promoting muscle-protein synthesis; this suggests the possibility that BCAAs are a useful supplement in relation to exercise and sports.”

The main consideration when choose a BCAA product is, “what is the best ratio of BCAAs?”

For example, some people assume that there should be a much higher ratio of leucine to isoleucine and valine because leucine has shown to have the most significant impact on muscle recovery and muscle growth. For example, a study published in the American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism stated that,

“We conclude that leucine decreases protein degradation in humans and that this decreased protein degradation during leucine infusion contributes to the decrease in plasma essential amino acids. This study suggests a potential role for leucine as a regulator of protein metabolism in humans.”

However, there has been no direct studies proving the best ratio of BCAAs. In my experience, however, I have received the best results from using Scivation Xtend Original Formula BCAAs and its 2:1:1 ratio of leucine:isoleucine:valine.

Other BCAA supplements come in 4:1:1, 8:1:1, or even 10:1:1 ratios of the branch chain amino acids. Although the science is not conclusive at this point, I am a true believer in the 2:1:1 ratio of BCAAs in Scivation Xtend.

In total, Scivation Xtend contains 7 grams of BCAAs per serving, including 3.5g of leucine and 1.75g of isoleucine and valine.

Aside from the BCAAs themselves, Scivation Xtend also contains additional ingredients which help with muscle recovery and muscle growth such as:

  • L-Glutamine
  • Citrulline Malate
  • An Electrolyte Blend
  • Vitamin B6

Glutamine and BCAAs always pair well together, since they are both quick absorbing amino acids which improve muscle recovery.

Overall, Scivation Xtend contains multiple additional ingredients which improve muscle recovery and muscle growth, which is why I consider it the best BCAA supplement overall!

When to Take Scivation Xtend BCAAs?

Although many people suggest drinking BCAAs during your workout, I always prefer to drink a serving of Scivation Xtend 15-30 minutes before training, and then again immediately after. Personally, I don’t prefer drinking anything with “taste” while training, and instead drink only water.

Drinking Scivation Xtend before and after training provides ample amounts of amino acids so that your muscles will not break down during training and will recover faster.

Aside from before and after training, you can also drink a serving of Scivation Xtend between meals or as soon as you wake up in the morning.

For those of you who are trying to lose weight, one serving of Scivation Xtend can be a great replacement for a snack between meals because it will help protect your hard-earned muscle mass, while also helping you to avoid unnecessary calories.

Furthermore, if you are trying to build muscle mass, drinking BCAAs first thing in the morning is a great way to quickly recover from your overnight “fast” and begin stimulating the muscle building process.

There are many times during the day when you can drink Scivation Xtend, and it is hard to find a time when it is not beneficial for your body if you are training consistently.

Which Scivation Xtend BCAAs Should You Purchase?

There are a variety of different types of Scivation Xtend formulas. Aside form the main ingredients I listed above, each contains a few unique ingredients and are formulated for specific uses.

Scivation Xtend Original Review

Although some of the newer Scivation Xtend supplements are incredible, I have always been a fan of the original formula. Personally, I always order 90-servings at a time because it is more cost-effective.

That way, you can use 3-servings of Xtend per day, which can significantly improve your progress towards an aesthetic body and your other fitness goals.

Scivation Xtend Sport Review

If you are an athlete (like myself), the Xtend Sport edition is an excellent option because the additional electrolytes which help with keep you hydrated. Xtend Sport includes the same amount of BCAAs as the Original Formula, however, it also includes additional electrolytes such as betaine anhydrous, sodium, potassium, magnesium, and coconut water powder.

According to a study published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research,

“These findings indicate that betaine supplementation results in a moderate increase in total repetitions and volume load in the bench press exercise, without favorably impacting other performance measures.”

If you are an athlete who is planning on doing alot of sweating, this is the best BCAA supplement for you!

Simply put, Scivation Xtend Energy is the original formula with the addition of caffeine anhydrous. If you believe you need the boost of caffeine before your next workout, Xtend Energy is for you!

This is also a useful supplement as a replacement for your mid-day jolt. Although there are many health benefits of drinking coffee or green tea, Xtend Energy provides BCAAs and other electrolytes, along with caffeine.

Is Scivation Xtend BCAA Good for Gaining Muscle?

Xtend BCAA is one of the best muscle building supplements because it supports muscle recovery with direct amino acids. If you are looking to build muscle mass, Scivation Xtend is a great supplement for you!

Is Xtend BCAA Good for Weight Loss

Like with anything, the main consideration for weight loss comes down to calories in vs calories out. However, Scivation Xtend can certainly be great for weight loss because it will help you increase your BMR (basal metabolic rate), and you can use it as a healthy snack between meals.

If you are trying to lose weight, Xtend BCAAs are a great option for you!

Concluding Thoughts – Scivation Xtend BCAA Review

I have been using Scivation Xtend BCAAs consistently for the last ~10 years, and I don’t see myself changing anytime soon.

If you enjoy the original product, there are other Scivation Xtend options such as their caffeine-containing BCAAs or their entirely natural product. These BCAAs contain various ingredients which can help you with a variety of goals that you have.

Overall, Scivation Xtend is the best BCAA supplement I have ever used, and I am confident you will think so too!
