If I had not created my own system to train the vertical jump, I would have never become a professional basketball player.
In high school I was known for being the 6’ 9” kid who could barely dunk!
Fast forward to college basketball, and I was well-known for being one of the most athletic centers in the country!
In 2015, while I was playing for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA summer league, I recorded a 37” vertical jump!

When I was in college, I used to spend hours per day searching the internet searching for a jump manual or vertical jump workouts that would help me!
However, a good program to help me jump higher was hard to find.
The other issue was that every vertical jump training program was way more expensive than I could spend!

Even if you are not a basketball player, there are a lot of reasons you could want to jump higher.
Jumping higher is important for volleyball, football, soccer, baseball, and other sports as well!
In fact, developing the lower body power and strength that is necessary to build an awesome vertical jump is important for nearly every sport!
Even if you are a powerlifter or bodybuilder, a good jump program will help you develop your lower body muscles exactly how you want!
Is It Worth It to Purchase a Vertical Jump Program?
From my own personal experience, most vertical jump training programs cost far more than they are worth.

What Exercises Should a Vertical Jump Manual Include?
If you decide to go ahead and purchase a vertical jump training program, you should first examine the type of exercises that the program contains.
If the jump training manual you are looking at is heavily based on plyometrics and “explosive” exercises, throw it out.
Most people do not need heavy plyometric training to jump better, and it will probably negatively impact your body overall.
Plyometrics are only necessary after proper movement quality, strength, and power have been trained.
However, it is simple for people to tell kids that a box jump workout is going to increase their vert and make money off this lazy programming.
If you read my eBook, you will see a full breakdown of what you need to do with your body in order to truly jump higher.
A good vertical jump workout will always include:
- Mobility and Flexibility Work
- Single Leg Balance and Stability Training
- Single Leg Strength and Power Training
- Bilateral Power and Strength Training
- Effective and Simple Plyometric Exercises
- More Mobility and Flexibility Work
- Adequate Rest
Take the time to examine the main contents of each jump program out there, and you will see that many of them do not contain all these key components.

Doing a depth jump and box jump workout 3-4 times per week might sound like a great way to train the vertical jump to someone who doesn’t fully understand movement science, which is why Believe the Flight is superior to nearly all other jump programs on the market!
How to Increase Vertical Jump at Home
If you are looking to purchase a vertical jump manual, you are probably going to need quite a bit of equipment too.
My eBook is no different, but I do have quite a few exercises included which can help you to increase your vertical jump at home.
If you do not have access too a fitness center or weight room often, don’t worry!
You can improve your vertical jump at home with exercises including:
Honestly, most people are better off mastering these movements before ever investing in a jump training program! If you want to increase your vertical jump at home, you will need to be more focused on having short, but intense workouts.
There are a lot of lower body circuits which can be done with only your body weight, and they are especially useful for jumping.
Along with this, you can also train at home to lower your body fat and improve your core strength. A strong core is as important to jumping as anything else, and you can easily do sets of planks and sit ups to define and strengthen your abdominals at home!
Using bodyweight exercises at home is an excellent way to burn fat as well, another important aspect to vertical jump training.
Overall, there are tons of ways you can increase your vert at home!
Additional Tips – How to Jump Higher
Aside from the tips I have already listed above, there are a lot of other methods for improving your vertical leap.
However, basic rules always apply.
You want to build strong muscles, which are also explosive.
Doing back squats all day will build a lot of strength, but it will not make you powerful or explosive. If you decide to make your own vertical jump program, always pair strength exercises with power exercises.
An example of this is using back squats, combined with box jumps.
Along with this, you want to work to lower your body fat before anything else. If you have over 10-12% body fat, your vertical leap will be lower than it could be due to excess weight.
Reduce your body fat down to around 8% body fat for maximal jumping ability. If you want to learn more about why you should reduce your body fat to jump higher, this information is included in my eBook as well!
The most basic principle of jumping higher is that you want to propel yourself with both power, and strength. If you stick with this guideline, you will be successful!
Best Vertical Jump Shoes
I will be perfectly honest, there are no shoes that increase your vertical jump on their own.
Vertical jump shoes are not a real thing! However, wearing proper footwear for training the vertical leap is very important!
If you are simply looking to put on some vertical jump shoes and automatically have a 40-inch leap, that will not happen.
Instead, focus on training in shoes that are fit for your goals.
Lower body movements should be performed in shoes with a stiffer sole, such as “CrossFit” shoes. If you are doing plyometric exercise, basketball shoes are excellent for absorbing the force generated when you land.
Shoes that will increase your vertical jump might not be a real thing, but there is certainly a significant difference in vertical jump training shoes. Always choose the shoes which are right for the type of exercises you are doing on a given day- it will help you increase your vert much more efficiently!
