The Amazing Benefits of Tea

Originating in southwest China as a medicinal drink, tea is the most widely consumed drink in the world, after water. Tea is derived from the Camellia Sinensis plant. And it’s one of the few beverages which is served both hot or iced.

Unsurprisingly, the usage of tea goes far beyond just a thirst-quenching beverage. Researchers have found that some teas may help with diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases, encourage weight loss and increase mental alertness. Here’s what studies have found about the numerous health benefits of tea:

Drinking Tea Aids with a Healthy Heart

Research suggests that drinking tea offers significant heart health benefits like reducing heart attack risk, lowering Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, or “bad” cholesterol. Studies show that the powerful antioxidants in tea like EGCG help prevent atherosclerosis and coronary artery diseases, because of its anti-inflammatory effects on plaque deposits in the bloodstream and arterial walls.

Drinking Tea Helps to Build Healthy Teeth

Studies have confirmed that drinking tea can help keep your teeth in good condition and reduce the risk of tooth decay. Tea also prevents bad breath by neutralizing Sulphur compounds.

Drinking Tea Helps to Ensure Healthy Bones

Drinking tea can mitigate bone loss in elderly women and men, which decrease the risk of osteoporotic fractures. A study has found that a chemical named Flavonoid found in tea can help ward off bone-weakening diseases.

Drinking Tea is Excellent for a Healthy Digestive System

EGCG in tea can help regulate the digestive system as it reduces inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.

The compound catechins found in tea possess anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, anti-carcinogenic and anti-bacterial properties. It’s found that tea can inhibit pro-carcinogen formation, activate intracellular antioxidants and suppress angiogenesis in the gastrointestinal tract which helps to improve the digestion in the human body.

Drinking Tea Can Enhance a Healthy Metabolism

The flavonoid in tea helps elevate metabolic rate, improve insulin activity and increase fat oxidation. Tea catechins provide shifts in metabolism that improve weight loss and overall body maintenance.

Here are a couple exercises from my workout today. I hope you can notice the one small difference I made on these Bulgarian Split squats. Instead of using a flat bench to place my rear foot, I used a bench with a slight incline. Doing so makes the ankle flexibility a bit easier and changes the stress of the movement a little different. If your ankles are tight and Bulgarian Split Squats are uncomfortable for you, give it a try!

The 2nd exercise is a core movement that I added some weight too. The “pull-over” movement (14kg Kettlebell) adds some more muscles into the movement making it a bit more challenging.
