There isn’t an exact scientific answer if your question is “how long does it take CBD oil to work for pain.” However, from my own experiences and the experiences of others, as well as a quick examination of the properties of CBD oil, there is clear evidence of how fast CBD oil works for pain.
For those of you who are completely new to the topic and don’t fully understand CBD oil yet, CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is known as a cannabinoid. CBD comes from the cannabis plant, and along with THC, it is one of the most well-known cannabinoids of the cannabis plant.
However, unlike the cannabinoid THC, CBD does not cause a “high” or any psychoactive effects.
Instead, there are many well-documented potential medical benefits of CBD oil.
There are a wide variety of common uses for CBD oil, and one of the most common applications is CBD for pain relief. I have personally used multiple forms of CBD for pain relief, and it was even an instrumental part of recovering from a spinal fracture I suffered in October of 2017.
Before you understand how long it takes for CBD oil to work for pain, you first need to consider which method of consuming CBD oil you will use.
The four primary ways of consuming CBD are:
- Inhalation (Vape)
- Sublingual Drops (Tincture)
- Ingestion (Edibles, Water, etc.)
The different ways of consumption affect how CBD can help relieve pain because after consuming CBD, it must first be absorbed into our bloodstream. Once CBD enters the bloodstream, it then provokes a complex response with your Endocannabinoid System that can result in pain relief.
Aside from the consumption method, other factors that affect how long it takes for CBD to help relieve pain include:
- The Quality of the CBD Product
- Type of CBD
- Your Body Weight
- Basal Metabolic Rate
- Body Composition (BMI/Body Fat %)
Inhalation is the quickest form of absorption, while ingestion or topical application will take the most time for pain relief.
Keep reading below to find out more about how long it takes for CBD oil to work for pain from each form of absorption, along with a few of my favorite CBD products!
How Long Does it Take for CBD Oil from Inhalation to Work for Pain?
As I said before, inhalation is the quickest method of CBD pain relief.
To inhale CBD, you can use either a vaporizer or an inhaler with CBD oil. Effects usually appear significantly within 10-20-minutes, although it is possible that you will feel effects within moments.
CBD oil from inhalation is absorbed from your lungs to the bloodstream, which is why it is much quicker than other methods.
However, inhaling CBD is my least favorite option overall. Although it is quick and effective, it is relatively harsh. In fact, I’ve only found two brands that make CBD vape products that I can consistently use.
If you would like to try a CBD vape product is the Primary Jane PJ Pure Vape.
If you choose to purchase the Primary Jane PJ Pure Vape, you can use my Primary Jane Coupon Code Kemp10 to take 10% off your order!
The Primary Jane PJ Pure does not contain any carrier liquid, and it comes in multiple great tastes. Also, it is an affordable product considering it costs $58.00 for 600mg.
How Long for CBD Sublingual Drops (CBD Tincture) to Work for Pain?
Although it does not work exactly as fast, using a CBD tincture with sublingual drops works quickly and is not nearly as harsh as vaping CBD.
Sublingual CBD products are absorbed into the veins under your tongue, and they enter your bloodstream at a rapid rate. The best way to use this product is to hold the CBD oil underneath your tongue for 30 to 60 seconds before swallowing, which helps the product to absorb quicker and better.
One of the main factors for how quickly you will notice the pain relief benefits of a CBD tincture product is the quality of the product. If you have a CBD tincture with nanotechnology or high-quality full-spectrum CBD oil, you will notice the effects quicker.
Personally, my favorite CBD tincture product is from Phytologica.
When I use the Phytologica tincture, I feel the effects within about 10-minutes, and they last for multiple hours. However, with lower quality products or CBD isolate, the effects take closer to 20 or 30 minutes for me to notice.
Another one of my favorites is Primary Jane Vitalize. Primary Jane Vitalize comes in a few unique flavors, and it is an affordable CBD tincture for pain. You can purchase 600mg of Primary Jane Vitalize for $58.00. Also, you can use my Primary Jane Coupon Code Kemp10 to take 10% off your order!
Their flavors include:
- Wild Berry
- Fire Mint
If you want slow-digesting but long-lasting effects, you should use ingestible CBD products.
Whether you want to drink CBD water, eat CBD chocolate, take CBD capsules, or ingest CBD in any other way, there is a product out there that suits your taste and needs.
Ingestible CBD products usually take over 30 minutes to begin working from my experience, since they must be digested through your entire digestive system first. However, the effects last longer than any other product.
Be wary of ingestible products that aren’t actually healthy for you. There is no point in using expensive CBD products to improve your health if you are eating sugary candies or gummies all day.
There are tons of ingestible CBD products out there, so I just suggest you search around until you find a product you like the best!
In my opinion, one of the best ingestible CBD products for pain is the Primary Jane Shine CBD Gummies. The Primary Jane Shine Gummies contain 25 mg each, and they are an all-natural and vegan CBD product for pain.
One of the main reasons I believe these are a great edible CBD for pain relief is that they do not contain artificial flavorings or sweeteners which would be unhealthy for you. Instead, they use spirulina for color and only a small amount of natural cane sugar for flavor!
How Long Does it Take for Topical CBD Products to Work for Pain?
Depending on the ingredients in the product you are using, topical CBD products can work immediately, or they can work by compounding over time.
For the most part, all topical CBD products will provide some type of immediate relief. If you use a CBD product with menthol, camphor, or capsaicin (which has instantaneous heating or cooling effects), you will notice a more significant difference directly after using the product.
However, in my opinion, the mark of a truly good topical CBD product is that you feel better day by day.
Topical CBD products must penetrate through the skin, and I believe their primary purpose should be to alleviate substantial amounts of inflammation in problematic areas.
For topical CBD products, my favorite brand is Muscle MX. Muscle MX has a completely THC-free pain relief topical, and it also comes in an easy to use “stick” form.
You can purchase each of these products for $39.99 each, or you can purchase them as a bundle for $79.99. You can also use my Muscle MX discount code AdamKempFitness10 for 10% off your order!
Concluding Thoughts – How Long Does it Take for CBD Oil to Work for Pain?
As you can see, this is a complicated question. However, the answers are simple as well.
If you always need immediate relief, you should look for the best CBD vape possible and use it whenever you need it.
Personally, I use sublingual CBD products the most, followed by various forms of ingestible and topical CBD. If you have problems with chronic pain due to inflammation in muscles, joints, etc., topical CBD is a great long-term option as well.
I hope that this clears up some of your confusion over how long it will take CBD oil products to help relieve pain for you!
