There isn’t an exact scientific answer if your question is, “how long does it take CBD oil to work for pain.” However, from my own experiences and the experiences of others, as well as a quick examination of the properties of CBD oil, there is clear evidence of how fast CBD oil works for pain.
For those completely new to the topic and who don’t fully understand CBD, CBD is cannabidiol, a cannabinoid from the cannabis plant. Along with THC, it is one of the most well-known cannabinoids of the cannabis plant.
However, unlike the cannabinoid THC, CBD does not cause a “high” or any psychoactive effects.
Instead, it is non-psychoactive, and there are many well-documented potential medical benefits of CBD oil.
There are many common uses for CBD products, and one of the most common applications is CBD for pain relief. I have personally used multiple forms of CBD for pain relief, and it was even an instrumental part of recovering from a spinal fracture I suffered in October of 2017.
How to Use CBD for Pain Relief
Before you understand how long it takes for CBD oil to work for pain, you first need to consider which method of consuming CBD oil you will use.
The four primary ways of consuming CBD are:
- Inhalation (Vape)
- Sublingual Drops (Tincture)
- Ingestion (Edibles, Water, etc.)
The different ways of consumption affect how CBD can help relieve pain because after consuming CBD, it must first be absorbed into our bloodstream. Once CBD enters the bloodstream, it then provokes a complex response with your Endocannabinoid System that can result in pain relief.
Aside from the consumption method, other factors that affect how long it takes for CBD to help relieve pain include:
- The Quality of the CBD Product
- Type of CBD
- Your Body Weight
- Basal Metabolic Rate
- Body Composition (BMI/Body Fat %)
Inhalation is the quickest form of absorption, while ingestion or topical application will take the most time for pain relief.
Keep reading below to learn more about how long it takes for CBD oil to work for pain from each form of absorption, along with a few of my favorite CBD products!
How Long Does it Take for CBD Oil from Inhalation to Work for Pain?
As I said before, inhalation is the quickest method of CBD pain relief.
To inhale CBD, you can use either a vaporizer or an inhaler with CBD oil. Effects of inhaled CBD are usually noticeable within 10-20-minutes, although you may feel effects within moments.
Inhaled CBD is absorbed from your lungs to the bloodstream, so it is much quicker than other methods.
However, inhaling CBD is my least favorite option. Although it is quick and effective, it is relatively harsh. In fact, I’ve only found one brand that makes CBD vape products that I can consistently use.
If you would like to try a CBD vape product, I suggest the Primary Jane PJ Pure Vape.
The Primary Jane PJ Pure does not contain any carrier liquid, and it comes in multiple great tastes. Also, it is an affordable product considering it costs $58.00 for 600mg.
How Long for CBD Sublingual Drops (CBD Tincture) to Work for Pain?
Although it does not work as fast, using a CBD tincture with sublingual drops works quickly and is not nearly as harsh as vaping CBD.
Sublingual CBD products are absorbed into the veins under your tongue, entering your bloodstream at a rapid rate. The best way to use this product is to hold the CBD oil underneath your tongue for 30 to 60 seconds before swallowing, which helps the product to absorb quicker and better.
One of the main factors for how quickly you will notice the pain relief benefits of a CBD tincture product is the quality of the product. If you have a CBD tincture with nanotechnology or high-quality full-spectrum CBD oil, you will notice the effects quicker.
One of my favorites is Pure Hemp Botanicals Pure Balance Tincture:
How Long Does it Take Ingestible CBD Products to Work for Pain?
If you want slow-digesting but long-lasting effects, you should use ingestible CBD products.
Whether you want to drink CBD water, eat CBD chocolate, take CBD capsules, or ingest CBD in any other way, there is a product that suits your taste and needs.
Ingestible CBD products usually take over 30 minutes to begin working, from my experience, since they must be digested through your entire digestive system first. However, the effects last longer than any other product.
Be wary of ingestible products that aren’t healthy for you. For example, there is no point in using expensive CBD products to improve your health if they are essentially sugary candies or gummies with a bit of CBD included.
There are tons of ingestible CBD products out there, so I suggest you search around until you find a product you like the best!
Pure Hemp Botanicals Pure Balance gummies are a great option:
How Long Does it Take for Topical CBD Products to Work for Pain?
Depending on the ingredients in the product you are using, topical CBD products can work immediately, or they can work by compounding over time.
For the most part, all topical CBD products will provide some immediate relief. However, if you use a CBD product with menthol, camphor, or capsaicin (which has instantaneous heating or cooling effects), you will notice a more significant difference directly after using the product.
In my opinion, the mark of a truly good topical CBD product is that you feel better day by day.
Topical CBD products must penetrate through the skin, and I believe their primary purpose should be to alleviate substantial amounts of inflammation in problematic areas.
For topical CBD products, my favorite brand is Muscle MX. Muscle MX has a completely THC-free pain relief topical, and it also comes in an easy-to-use “stick” form.
You can purchase each of these products for $39.99 each, or purchase them as a bundle for $79.99. You can also use my Muscle MX discount code AdamKemp20 for 20% off your order!
Concluding Thoughts – How Long Does it Take for CBD Oil to Work for Pain?
As you can see, determining how long it takes CBD to work for pain is a question with many answers. However, the answers are simple.
If you always need immediate relief, you should look for the best CBD vape and use it whenever you need it.
Personally, I use sublingual CBD products the most, followed by various forms of ingestible and topical CBD. However, if you have problems with chronic pain due to inflammation in muscles, joints, etc., topical CBD is a great long-term option.
I hope this clears up some of your confusion over how long it will take CBD oil products to help relieve pain!
