Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) and sesamin supplements can assist with healthy weight loss and fat loss and improve your health!

You might not have ever heard about Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) supplements are commonly known as stimulant-free weight loss supplements. However, there is still some debate about whether or not they are effective.

Using sesamin supplements for weight loss is even less known than CLA supplements, but they are also beneficial for your health and can assist with healthy weight loss.

CLA and sesamin work well on their own, but they are synergistic and work even better when used together.

What is CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)?

CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is a fatty acid that is naturally found in beef and dairy.

Want an excuse to eat more butter? Butter is high in CLA!

Due to its unique fatty acid profile, CLA has demonstrated physiological functions such as anticarcinogenic, antiobesity, antidiabetic, and antihypertensive properties (Koba & Yanagita, 2013).

Is CLA Good for Weight Loss?

Although I believe CLA is good for weight loss and a useful weight loss supplement for multiple reasons, research studies are not conclusive on why CLA promotes weight loss or whether it is conclusively a good weight loss supplement.

CLA has shown in some extremely promising animal studies that it was able to reduce body fat by as much as 60%!

A study entitled Effect of Conjugated Linoleic Acid on Body Composition in Mice, produced in Lipids, concluded that the effects of CLA on body composition and weight loss appear because CLA promotes reduced fat deposition and increased lipolysis in adipocytes (fat cells), possibly coupled with enhanced fatty acid oxidation in both muscle cells and adipocytes.

In my opinion, CLA is one of the best weight loss supplements because it is one of the only natural substances that reduces lipoprotein lipase activity, which is the enzyme that promotes fat cell storage and growth.

Due to that feature, CLA effectively blunts the response of the body to store fat, making fat loss and weight loss easier.

Due to its unique properties, CLA can also help target abdominal fat specifically, which is closely related with increased health problems.

As demonstrated in a study published in the International Journal of Obesity, CLA supplementation for four weeks in obese men with metabolic syndrome can decrease abdominal fat without simultaneous effects on overall obesity or other cardiovascular risk factors.

Although milk, beef, safflower oil, and butter are excellent sources of CLA, it is hard to get enough in your diet from these sources. Using CLA supplements is the best way to get the weight loss effects of CLA, but intaking high-CLA foods in your diet is still beneficial.

How Much CLA to Take for Weight Loss

According to a few different studies, around 3 to 4 grams of a CLA supplement per day can reduce body fat.

For example, the study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition used a dosage of 4 grams of CLA per day of 78% active CLA isomers. Due to that, I usually take 1 gram of CLA 3 times per day.

When Should You Take CLA for Weight Loss?

If you want to use CLA for weight loss, I suggest taking CLA in the morning, afternoon, and before bed. Taking CLA before bed may even have additional benefits!

According to a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, mixed isomer CLA supplementation positively altered fat oxidation and energy expenditure during sleep when compared to a placebo supplement.

However, that doesn’t mean you should only take CLA before bed.

Your goal should be to take 3-4 grams of CLA each day split into equal dosages.

How Long Does It Take for CLA to Work?

Many people starting a weight loss program look for quick results, but CLA does not burn fat quickly and is not something you should take expecting to lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks or something ridiculous like that.

Contrarily, you should use CLA supplements for weight loss as part of a healthy diet and exercise plan to lose around two pounds per week. CLA supplements will assist with weight loss by preventing metabolic adaptations to weight loss and making your weight loss journey easier, but it is not a miracle drug that will promote weight loss without any additional effort.

One of the biggest advantages of taking a conjugated linoleic acid supplement is that it will help you retain muscle during “cutting” cycles, and it will help you remain leaner while in “bulking” cycles. In other words, it can help you lose fat and keep muscle, and build muscle without gaining too much fat.

Instead of thinking about “how long it takes for CLA to work,” you should think about the long-term impacts of consistently using a CLA supplement.

What is Sesamin?

Sesamin is a lignan that is extracted from sesame seeds. Used in supplement form, sesamin supplements can assist with a healthy weight loss program.

Sesamin Supplements for Weight Loss – Do They Work?

Even as far back as 1990, a study published in the journal Metabolism pointed out that sesamin is a potent inducer of hepatic fatty acid oxidation in rats, which means it has the potential to increase weight loss and fat loss efforts.

Sesamin has been shown to suppress lipogenic genes, resulting in fat loss assistance.

According to a study on the effect of adding sesame oil to a traditional diet which was published in the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine, sesame oil contributed to a significant reduction in body weight and body mass index (BMI).

There are no well-conducted studies on the effects of sesamin supplements on weight loss, but research does indicate that sesamin supplements can assist with weight loss.

The Best Sesamin Supplement

There are quite a few sesamin supplements on the market, but I suggest buying the Lignans for Life sesamin supplement.

Lignans for Life is made from 100% pure sesame seeds and contains:

Concluding Thoughts – Combining Sesamin and CLA for Weight Loss

Using sesamin and CLA supplements together is a great way to assist a weight loss program. However, using sesamin and CLA supplements alone will not promote weight loss if you do not make additional lifestyle changes, such as increasing your exercise and eating a nutrient-dense diet.

If you are increasing your overall calories to gain weight, the combination of CLA and Sesamin supplements can help you maximize your muscle gains without adding too much body fat.

While you may not experience the same 60% fat loss recorded in animal testing, using sesamin and CLA supplements together can help you lose weight.

For those planning to use these two supplements together for fat loss, I suggest you take them in three separate dosages each day and take a total of 3-4 grams of CLA per day.

Along with the separate sesamin and CLA supplements I mentioned above, if you would like to purchase a product that combines both of these supplements, you can try Life Extension Super CLA Blend with Sesame Lignans.
