Bloom Energy Drinks Review: Ingredients, Pros, Cons & More!

As a professional basketball player with a Master’s Degree in Nutrition Education, I believe Bloom Energy Drinks are one of the healthiest energy drinks and an exceptional choice for individuals seeking a clean, convenient energy boost.

These unique, sparkling energy drinks are crafted with zero sugar, low calories, and natural ingredients designed to boost energy, metabolism, and mental focus without the jitters or sugar crashes common with traditional energy drinks.

Additionally, Bloom Energy Drinks’ combination of 180mg of natural caffeine from green coffee bean extract and an ingredient list that supports overall health in multiple ways sets it apart from other energy drinks and makes it a generally healthy source of caffeine.

As a long-time fan of Celsius Energy Drinks, I was initially skeptical about whether Bloom Energy Drinks could match the performance of my all-time favorite.

However, after trying several flavors and experiencing their energy-boosting, digestive-system-supporting effects, Bloom energy drinks have become one of my go-to caffeine sources.

Quick Verdict: Bloom is one of my favorite sugar-free energy drinks because it provides 180 mg of caffeine, light carbonation, and refreshing flavors without tasting overly artificial. Raspberry Lemon and Cherry Lime are my favorite flavors, and I would recommend Bloom primarily to people who want an alternative to Celsius Energy Drinks with slightly less caffeine and additional digestive-health ingredients.

Best for: Workouts, afternoon energy, Celsius or Alani nu drinkers, and people who prefer lighter flavors.

Skip it if: You are sensitive to caffeine, avoid sucralose, or experience digestive discomfort from prebiotic ingredients.

What are Bloom Energy Drinks?

Bloom Energy Drinks is a line of sparkling beverages developed by Bloom Nutrition, a company that produces a niche variety of health supplements.

They are designed to provide a natural energy boost while supporting overall wellness, and each 12-ounce can contains 180 milligrams of natural caffeine from green coffee bean extract (about the same as two cups of brewed coffee).

Formulated with zero added sugars and only 10 calories per can, Bloom Energy Drinks are sweetened with sucralose.

They also incorporate ingredients such as prebiotic fiber, taurine, L-theanine, Asian ginseng root extract, lychee fruit extract, green tea leaf extract, apple cider vinegar, and B vitamins, which aim to increase energy levels, boost metabolism, and promote mental focus and mood.

Bloom Energy Drinks are available in various flavors, including Peach Mango, Strawberry Watermelon, Raspberry Lemon, and Cherry Lime, and they can be purchased at major retailers such as Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Kroger.

Are Bloom Energy Drinks Good for You?

Bloom Energy Drinks can be a relatively healthy option compared with many traditional energy drinks, particularly for people looking for a low-sugar caffeine source with functional ingredients.

Each 12-ounce can contains 180 mg of caffeine, 0 grams of sugar, and only 10 calories, making Bloom a calorie-conscious option compared with traditional high-sugar energy drinks, which contain 25–60 grams of sugar per serving.

From a performance and health perspective, the ingredients in Bloom Energy Drinks provide several potential benefits.

The natural caffeine in green coffee bean extract supports alertness, reaction time, and mental focus, all of which benefit work productivity, exercise performance, and athletic training (Guest et al., 2021).

Bloom also includes L-theanine, an amino acid shown to improve cognitive performance and reduce the jittery effects sometimes associated with caffeine consumption (Owen et al., 2008).

Another unique feature of Bloom Energy Drinks is the inclusion of prebiotics and apple cider vinegar, which may support gut microbiome health and metabolic function when consumed as part of a balanced diet (Koh et al., 2016).

Additionally, green tea extract and lychee fruit extract provide polyphenols and antioxidants that may help reduce oxidative stress and support metabolic health (Cabrera et al., 2006).

That said, Bloom Energy Drinks are still caffeinated beverages, so they should be consumed in moderation.

Health authorities such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) state that most healthy adults can safely consume up to 400 mg of caffeine per day, which means one to two cans of Bloom Energy Drinks generally fall within safe limits for most individuals.

One potential downside is that Bloom Energy Drinks use sucralose as a sweetener, which some people prefer to avoid due to individual digestive sensitivity or personal dietary preferences.

Overall, Bloom Energy Drinks can be a healthier alternative to traditional energy drinks, especially for people seeking low-calorie energy support, improved focus, and functional ingredients beyond caffeine alone.

However, like all caffeinated beverages, they should be consumed responsibly and as part of a balanced diet.

Ingredients in Bloom Energy Drinks

Unlike many other energy drinks that contain artificial additives and synthetic energy boosters, Bloom Sparkling Energy Drinks deliver natural caffeine, antioxidants, and additional digestive support.

Compared with most other energy drinks, each ingredient appears thoughtfully chosen to provide maximum benefits without unnecessary additives or artificial fillers.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the key ingredients in Bloom Energy Drinks and their potential benefits.

Green Coffee Bean Extract (Natural Caffeine Source)

Each can of Bloom Energy contains natural caffeine derived from green coffee bean extract.

This natural caffeine source provides a clean, sustained energy boost without the crash or jittery feeling often associated with synthetic energy drinks.

For those who rely on energy drinks to power through workouts, workdays, or busy schedules, the caffeine in Bloom Energy Drinks makes it a reliable choice.

Green Tea Extract

One of the main reasons I believe Bloom Sparkling Energy Drinks are among the best energy drinks for weight loss is that they contain a fair amount of green tea extract, which provides powerful antioxidants that combat oxidative stress and support metabolism.

Green tea extract helps reduce inflammation and increase fat oxidation, making it a valuable addition for those focused on long-term health and weight management.

Green tea extract also adds an extra benefit by delivering powerful antioxidants that combat oxidative stress and support cellular health.

Antioxidants play a crucial role in reducing inflammation and promoting long-term metabolic health, making green tea extract a useful addition for those looking to optimize their overall wellness.

Asian Ginseng Extract

Another unique ingredient in Bloom Energy Drinks is Asian Ginseng Extract, which is a well-known adaptogen used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to combat fatigue, enhance focus, and support cognitive function (Reay et al., 2005).

Key benefits of Asian Ginseng in Bloom Energy Drinks:

• Improves mental clarity and cognitive performance
• Reduces stress and supports adrenal health
• Enhances physical endurance and fights fatigue
• Supports immune function

Lychee Fruit Extract

One of the most unique ingredients in Bloom Energy Drinks is lychee fruit extract, which delivers powerful antioxidants to fight oxidative stress and support hydration.

Why is Lychee Extract Important?

• Rich in polyphenols, which help neutralize free radicals and reduce inflammation
• Supports cardiovascular health by improving blood circulation
• Enhances hydration due to its natural electrolyte content
• Aids in muscle recovery, making it beneficial for post-workout replenishment

This unique ingredient sets Bloom apart from other energy drinks by offering more than just a caffeine boost, providing cellular protection and hydration support.

Prebiotics

Prebiotics serve as a food source for beneficial gut bacteria and help develop a balanced microbiome that supports digestion and overall gut health, and it is very unique to consume them from an energy drink.

By stimulating the growth of probiotics, these helpful bacteria also support immune function and nutrient absorption, while contributing to a healthier digestive system.

They also aid in the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), such as butyrate, which help reduce inflammation in the gut, strengthen the intestinal lining, and improve overall metabolic health (Koh et al., 2016).

Including prebiotics in Bloom Energy Drinks is a feature that you won’t find in other energy drinks.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar improves digestive efficiency, promotes beneficial gut bacteria, and supports metabolic health.

Its acetic acid content helps slow the digestion of carbohydrates, leading to more stable blood sugar levels and improved insulin sensitivity (Jafarirad et al., 2023).

This, in turn, can reduce cravings and support fat metabolism, making ACV a valuable ingredient for those focused on weight management.

Additionally, ACV aids in nutrient absorption by increasing stomach acid production, ensuring that essential vitamins and minerals are effectively utilized by the body.

Apple cider vinegar can cause some digestive upset for people who are not used to it, but it can also steadily improve digestion and reduce bloating.

L-Theanine

Bloom Energy Drinks also contain L-theanine, an amino acid known for its calming and focus-enhancing properties.

When combined with caffeine, L-theanine helps improve mental clarity without the overstimulation that can occur with high doses of caffeine (Owen et al., 2008).

This makes Bloom Sparkling Energy Drinks an ideal option for those needing a clear mind and steady energy.

Benefits of Bloom Energy Drinks

With so many energy drinks on the market, finding a clean, effective, and health-conscious option can be challenging.

While traditional energy drinks often rely on synthetic stimulants, artificial sweeteners, and excessive sugar, Bloom Energy Drinks take a different approach.

By combining natural caffeine, antioxidants, gut-friendly ingredients, and adaptogens, Bloom offers a functional energy boost without the unwanted side effects of many mainstream options.

Here are some of the primary benefits of Bloom Energy Drinks that make it a superior choice for those prioritizing both energy and overall wellness.

No Unnecessary Additives

Unlike many traditional energy drinks filled with artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives, Bloom Energy Drinks take a much different approach.

Each ingredient is intentionally chosen to support energy, focus, and health, without the unnecessary extras that can tax your system or cause unwanted side effects.

This makes Bloom Energy Drinks ideal for those who want a more natural and purposeful energy drink without synthetic fillers.

No Overload of Synthetic Vitamins & Minerals

Many energy drinks attempt to appeal to health-conscious consumers by cramming in mega-doses of synthetic vitamins, which can be unnecessary, or even counterproductive, for those already eating a balanced diet.

Bloom Energy Drinks avoids this approach, providing a minimalist, balanced nutrient profile while still delivering a strong caffeine boost from natural sources, making it a smarter choice for those who prioritize simplicity and function over flashy nutrition labels.

No Added Sugar

Bloom Energy Drinks also have no added sugar, using sucralose as a sweetener to keep calories low (only 10 per can), which supports those aiming to maintain a calorie-conscious diet.

Celsius is my go-to energy drink due to its unique thermogenic properties, but Bloom Sparkling Energy Drinks serve as an excellent alternative to Celsius drinks for specific scenarios.

Bloom Energy Drink’s lighter flavors, focus on digestion, and balanced energy delivery make it ideal for mid-day pick-me-ups or as a pre-workout beverage.

A Unique Focus on Gut Health

While most energy drinks focus solely on caffeine, Bloom includes prebiotics, apple cider vinegar, lychee extract, and green tea extract, offering additional health benefits beyond energy.

The prebiotics and apple cider vinegar in Bloom Energy Drinks are particularly beneficial for improving gut health and digestion.

Note: While prebiotics and ACV are excellent for gut health, they can have a mild laxative effect, especially for those new to these ingredients.

This might encourage digestion shortly after consumption, which could be a consideration for busy professionals or those drinking Bloom on the go.

However, this effect is typically mild and manageable, especially as your body adapts.

Antioxidant Support

Another unique benefit of Bloom Energy Drinks is that they deliver a powerful antioxidant punch through ingredients like green tea extract and lychee fruit extract.

These antioxidants help combat oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and support long-term metabolic and cellular health.

Green tea extract also increases fat oxidation and metabolic function, while lychee extract provides polyphenols that protect against free radical damage and support hydration and recovery.

Unique Flavor & Great Taste (9/10)

One of my favorite aspects of drinking Bloom Energy Drinks is that they deliver a lineup of light, refreshing flavors.

Raspberry Lemon is my favorite, but all of their flavors, including Peach Mango, Cherry Lime, and Strawberry Watermelon, offer a naturally sweet, vibrant taste without the harsh artificial aftertaste found in many mainstream energy drinks.

Additionally, each can is lightly carbonated, providing a crisp, clean mouthfeel that enhances the overall drinking experience.
