Conversion disorder is a true disorder which is commonly misunderstood.
Though the exact causes are unknown, this disorder causes the individual suffering from it to have real and serious symptoms of actual physical disorders.
A common mistake, both for physicians and for bystanders, is that the person is faking the symptoms in order to get attention.
In fact, this is not the case at all. The symptoms are real and potentially life-threatening.
Who Gets Conversion Disorder?
This issue is most common in women, but it can easily be found in men as well.
Perhaps it is the fact that men do not usually want to display their physical woes and women have less of a problem doing so.
Either way, the disorder is real and the symptoms are real.
Treatments are required to make recovery happen.
How Can It Be Treated?
There is not simple pill or treatment that will immediately eradicate the woes of this disorder.
It can stay with a person for life without proper intervention.
This means that the person suffering must first be identified as actually having the disorder.
Usually, there may be a necessary period of time as an inpatient in order to determine if self-harm is possible, and to use covert influence to get results.
Can It Cause Real Disease?
The first thing to understand is that this is a real disease.
Though conversion disorder is not at all contagious and it is not something that is strictly inherited, it is caused by various real factors.
Therefore, it is indeed a real disease with symptoms and real life consequences.
Left untreated, it could lead to other psychological disorders such as depression, mania, and motor skill impairment.
What are the Causes of Conversion Disorder?
It would be a long stretch to say that any mental disorder can be quantified enough to present a real and direct cause for the disorder.
There are always many contributing factors.
In this case, conversion disorder can be caused by abandonment, a lack of attention, poor coping skills, and other causes.
Whether drugs can be a cause is not currently known, but there are certain drugs which can induce a state of mind which is similar.
Can It Be Cured?
As mentioned, certain types of psychotherapy and hypnotherapy can definitely help one to make progress to healing.
While conversion disorder can disrupt lives significantly be causing myriad physical symptoms, it can also be mitigated with the ideal care which can be provided by professionals in the field.
Hypnotherapy and psychological counseling are going to target progressive successes as the goals.
Considering all of the odd diseases on this planet, we know some of them, if not many of them, must be caused or exacerbated by mental factors outside of our total control.
As long as we understand this and continue to find ways to deal with anything which arises, we will be in a better place to deal with our own mental and physical challenges which arise consistently.
