Believe it or not, making changes around your house can be an awesome house cleaning workout itself!

Making only a few small changes to your current living condition can have an overwhelmingly large effect on how well you maintain your fitness journey!

One of the most important steps to optimizing your house or apartment to benefit your fitness goals is to set up an appropriate kitchen.  Eating healthy is more than just about buying the correct foods and putting them in your refrigerator, it is a lifestyle.

Simple improvements to building a functional kitchen for healthy living can be clearing a counter top to have space for a slow cooker and a blender.

By having these two items in an easy to manage space, you will be promoted to use them much more often!  The slow cooker is one of the most invaluable pieces of equipment for anyone attempting to lose weight, or gain muscle.

Many people struggle to cook healthy foods for themselves daily, and resort to eating too many snacks or too many meals at restaurants where their overall meal will sacrifice in nutrients.

The slow cooker allows you to easily prepare meals that will last you multiple days, and that will be hot and ready as soon as you come home each day!

An easy to use and functionally efficient blender is another vital component of a healthy living space, as you can easily pack huge amounts of nutrients into a smoothie or shake each day.

Blenders can help you easily resolve gaps in certain nutrients in your diet, allowing you to quickly pack your body with high quality fruits, nuts, vegetables, and protein.

Your refrigerator and cabinets absolutely should be filled with natural and whole foods, but optimizing your space to consume these foods is a huge tip to living in an apartment or house that is built for healthy living!

Another trick to building a kitchen which will help you become healthier overtime is to correctly organize your cabinets so that you can maintain a schedule for snacks, and your dietary supplements.  Dietary supplements are not necessary for everyone, but they can absolutely help you on your fitness journey.

If your cabinets remain properly organized you will be able to stay on schedule with the supplements you need, much more easily.

Similarly, if your cabinets are full of healthy snacks that you can easily take when you leave or enter your home, you will be less likely to purchase sugary or unhealthy snacks on the go.

This type of organization can have lasting effects on your fitness goals over the course of a year!

Designating a Fitness Room

One more tip for organizing your flat or house is to reserve one room, or even one portion of one room, for small fitness activities.  This can be as simple as leaving enough space for a yoga mat where you can do yoga or bodyweight exercises.

It is not necessary for you to have a full-sized weight room in your own home, but having the space where you know you can always go to quickly do some push-ups and sit-ups, or other exercises, will promote you to add more physical “work” in to your schedule overall.

Finding space where you can do yoga can be especially helpful, as yoga is such a great exercise to do before you sleep.

Becoming in the habit of doing yoga before bed is excellent for your mind, body and spirit, and you will feel the many benefits of performing this activity within just a week of beginning!

  • Big win on the road yesterday! 6-3 on the season now.

Here are a couple exercises from my workout today. I hope you can notice the one small difference I made on these Bulgarian Split squats. Instead of using a flat bench to place my rear foot, I used a bench with a slight incline. Doing so makes the ankle flexibility a bit easier and changes the stress of the movement a little different. If your ankles are tight and Bulgarian Split Squats are uncomfortable for you, give it a try!

The 2nd exercise is a core movement that I added some weight too. The “pull-over” movement (14kg Kettlebell) adds some more muscles into the movement making it a bit more challenging.
