Top Reasons to Use a Natural and Organic Insect Repellant!

Top Reasons to Use a Natural and Organic Insect Repellant!

Summer months are loved by nearly everyone, but the bugs that come with it are not.  From spring to summer insects begin to reproduce and populate the air, annoying all of us in the process.

Luckily, we have developed incredibly effective bug repellant that can keep us free from bug bites, and the potential diseases which can be carried by them.

However, these insect repellants could be just as harmful for our bodies as the insects that they are repelling!

Reasons to Not Use Chemical Bug Repellant

Our skin is the first line of defense for our body, and it is a crucial organ that we need to keep healthy to maintain overall health.  Similar to how it is always advisable to use organic and natural lotions, soaps, and shampoos; using an organic and natural bug repellant is very helpful for keeping your body healthy, and away from bug bites.

The main component of any insect repellant that you should look to avoid is called DEET.   DEET was originally used as an insect repellant by the American military during their war in Vietnam, but was invented to be a pesticide to protect farm products.

DEET was believed to protect against insects by blocking certain smells that were produced by the human bodies sweat and breath, however it is no more understood that insects simply dislike the smell so much that they stay away completely.

DEET is very effective for repelling insects, but it is not something that you want on your skin either!

DEET is a dangerous pesticide, and you should try your best to never buy a product containing it; even though many insect repellants on the market still contain it in full-force.

Best Natural Oils to Use as an Insect Repellant

Luckily, nature has crafted many natural essential oils which can repel insects with the same effectiveness; and are actually good to apply directly on your skin!

Essential oils such as lavender, black pepper, lemon balm and lemongrass, soy oil and citronella are all examples of natural products which have shown to repel insects effectively.  There are certainly more essential oil options than this even, but these are just a few!

In fact, soybean oil alone has shown to be just as effective as DEET in repelling insects when used as a spray during advanced studies, even though it is a natural product!

If you would like to order an excellent natural insect repellant online, you should definitely check out this amazing site that has a multitude of different types of applications and scents to repel insects all summer long!

The summer months do not have to be torturous for you and your body, and you can easily defend yourself from mosquitos and other annoying insects; without the risk of applying a deadly chemical to your skin!

  • Temple of Apollo Epikourios at Bassae, Greece.
Wow! This place was enormous.. Today was the last of a 3-day break we have, and we picked a perfect place to visit! It was nice to learn some history of the Greek god Apollo as well.
Seeing as it’s Earth Day, I had to share one photo we took while driving to the temple. The picture doesn’t do it justice, but I had to try!

  • Today we visited the Temple of Apollo Epikourios. It took us ~2 hours to drive up through the mountains to get to the temple, but the ride was beautiful! Unfortunately, we hit some traffic on the way back down the mountain! hahaha

  • Ancient Elis, Greece.
In Greek Antiquity this was one of the largest cities in Greece. Although the Ancient city is just ruins now, you can still feel the aura every step! One of the biggest contributions of this ancient city was that the Olympic Games were “planned” here, and athletes from across the world gathered here before the original Olympic Games were officially hosted in Olympia. •

  • Katakolon, Greece.
The town itself you can pretty much see in its entirety on my 2nd photo. @Anna_Targoniy and I spent about an hour just sitting by the sea, and watching the water and the people fishing off the docks. There are some great wine/olive tours here that we didn’t do, but it was still an amazing place to see!

Later I will post some other photos from this amazing little town, but I was so excited I had to post this first 😂 @olybeea.gr is by far the best honey I’ve ever had in my life! I’ve ate local New York honey forever, but this was just a whole different level! Also they have an incredible “mantra” about the connection between bees, honey, and life in general that I think is great. •
Katakolon is a high-traffic port for excursions in the Mediterranean so if anyone happens to come through here, I highly recommend you check out their shop! Personally, I’m excited to go back and try their Royal Jelly and other honey products!!
